Rockbridge County Democratic Committee Meeting - March 26, 2014

Wednesday, March 26
 
5:30 pm -  Talk,  "Retrospective on the Recent Election and Prospective  on the Future" by Rusty Ford and Buster Lewis, JR., Members of the Rockbridge County Board of Supervisors from Kerrs Creek and Walkers Creek Districts respectively, at the Virginia Horse Center, Mezzanine Level, Lexington.    

Mr. Ford, a long time resident of Rockbridge County and graduate of Yale University, served many years on the faculty of Rockbridge County High School.  He is a cattle farmer and owner of the Lime Kiln property.

Mr. Lewis came to Rockbridge County in 1972 and owns and operates Mountain View Farm in Rockbridge Baths and Jefferson Florists in Lexington and Hot Springs.  He is a graduate of the University of Texas and a member of the first class of Peace Corps Volunteers, serving in Colombia in 1961.

In their capacity as Supervisors, both men have focused on fiscal and community development and emphasized the role of quality education in the economic development of the County.

The Supervisors' remarks will be preceded by a 5:30 pm  Social hour (cash bar) followed by 6:15 pm buffet dinner (cash $20).

AREA DEMOCRATS TO CONDUCT BIENNIAL CAUCUS

AREA DEMOCRATS TO CONDUCT BIENNIAL CAUCUS

Rockbridge County and Lexington City Democrats will meet  9 - 11 am,  Saturday, December 14, to to elect or reelect members to the Democratic Committees for a two year term.  There will also be an election of officers.

The meeting is open to the public, but to participate in the meeting one must be a registered voter in Rockbridge County or Lexington, and must provide written certification that he or she is a Democrat, believes in the principles of the Democratic Party and does not intend to support any candidate who is opposed to a Democratic nominee. 

The caucus will be held in the Gallery Room at the Holiday Inn Express, 880 North Lee Highway in Lexington.  A $6 continental breakfast will be served.

Roy Fauber to Speak to Democrats on January 23, 2013



Mr. Roy Fauber, former member of the Rockbridge County Board of Supervisors (2000-2003), will speak on "The Role of Political Parties in Local Elections" at the Wednesday, January 23 meeting of the Rockbridge County Democratic Committee, to be held at 5:30 pm at the Virginia Horse Center, Mezzanine Level.



After a twenty-seven year career in the Federal Reserve System, Mr Fauber retired as Senior Vice-President and became active in Rockbridge County community affairs, serving six years on the Board of Directors of the Rockbridge Area Habitat for Humanity and four years on the Rockbridge County Board of Supervisors. He has consulted on business and banking projects, most recently with central banks in Eastern Europe and VietNam. Mr. Fauber holds a BS in Economics from Virginia Tech and an MBA from Virginia Commonwealth University.



Mr. Fauber's remarks will be preceded by a 5:30 pm social hour (cash bar) and a 6:15 pm buffet dinner ($20 cash). Attendance at dinner is not required to attend the program which starts at 7 pm. Rockbridge County Democratic Committee Meeting - Nov 28, 2012



Former Virginia Democratic Committee Vice-Chair to Speak November 28

James Turpin, former Vice-Chair of the Virginia Democratic Committee, will be the featured speaker at the November 28 meeting of the Rockbridge County Democratic Committee to be held at 5:30 pm at the Virginia Horse Center, Mezzanine Level.  Mr. Turpin will be taking a look back on the successful 2012 campaign and a look forward to 2013 campaigns. 

Mr. Turpin grew up in Georgia and came to Virginia in 1971 to attend Virginia Military Institute.  A one-time Republican,  he has served in a number of posts in the Democratic Party of Virginia over the last twenty-five years. His background includes a strong interest in historic campaign paraphernalia, and a passion for wine.   These two interests were combined when Mr. Turpin founded the Democracy  Vineyard in Nelson County in 2007 and decorated the wall of the tasting room with pieces from the campaign collection. 

In the past, Mr. Turpin has been principal with the EB&T Strategy Group which provided strategic planning in a range of issue areas including, but not limited to, health care, land use, housing, economic development and state legislative caucus development.  In 2008, he served as Delegate to the Democratic National Convention.
